Taking place on August 4-15, 2027, IEM Cologne will feature four days of Playoffs at the LANXESS arena and a 360° stage for the first time
Thursday, October 1, 2026, Cologne, Germany: Following a historic Intel® Extreme Masters (IEM) Cologne Major that broke the all-time Counter-Strike viewership records earlier this year, the tournament is set to return in 2027 for its biggest edition to date. On August 4-15, 24 of the world’s best Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) teams will return to the Cathedral of Counter-Strike to battle for $1,250,000 in Total Winnings, the coveted championship trophy, and a crucial point in the ESL Grand Slam race.
As one of the ESL Pro Tour (EPT) flagship Championship tournaments, IEM Cologne will bring the highest level of CS2 competition to the city. For the first time outside of a Major, the competition will culminate in four days of Playoffs at the LANXESS arena on August 12-15, where the best eight teams will compete in front of a packed crowd. Adding to the expanded arena experience, the playoffs will unfold on a 360-degree stage, introducing a new live setup to the Cathedral of Counter-Strike as part of the biggest IEM Cologne edition yet.
“What happened in Cologne this year was remarkable, and it once again showed what makes IEM Cologne so special. It brings together the world’s best teams, fans from across the globe, an atmosphere unlike almost anywhere else in Counter-Strike, and a history that has made this tournament one of the game’s most iconic events,” said Marc Winther, Director Esports Counter-Strike 2 at ESL FACEIT Group. “With four days of Playoffs at the LANXESS arena and the 360-degree stage design, we have an opportunity to deliver our most ambitious edition yet while staying true to what has made IEM Cologne such an important part of esports history for more than a decade.”
The announcement follows a record-breaking 2026 edition, which saw IEM Cologne host a Counter-Strike Major for the first time in a decade. Team Falcons lifted the trophy in front of a sold-out LANXESS arena, while the competition became the most-watched CS tournament of all time, surpassing 100 million* hours watched and 2.75 million* peak viewership.
Ticket sales for IEM Cologne 2027 will begin with pre-sale on 13th October at 15:00 CEST, followed by Wave 1 general sales on October 15th at 15:00 CEST.
