ESL Signs Three Year Consecutive Broadcasting Rights Agreement with TV 2 to Broadcast ESL Pro Tour in Denmark

(Cologne) October 17th 2019 — ESL, the world’s largest esports company and DreamHack, the premier gaming lifestyle festival today announce an agreement with Danish broadcast company TV 2 on the acquisition of the Danish rights for ESL Pro Tour Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) produced by ESL and DreamHack for three consecutive years.

As part of the agreement, TV2 owns platform neutral exclusive rights in Danish language and the primary exploitation of the content will be via the broadcast channel TV2 Zulu and OTT-service TV2 Play. The agreement contains a three-year deal starting in 2020 and expiring in February, 2023, thus bringing the recently announced ESL Pro Tour in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) to a broad Danish audience.

Both ESL and DreamHack initiated the cooperation with TV 2 in the beginning of 2019. Entering into this new agreement means a deepened relationship between the two leading global esports companies and TV 2 and a renewed, long term commitment by TV 2 to bringing esports entertainment to a large audience in Denmark.

“Denmark is a very progressive market actively embracing and developing esports for many years already across all levels of society”, said Thomas Schmidt, Chief Commercial Officer at ESL. “ESL is all about ‘creating a world where everybody can be somebody’ – the partnership with TV2 reinforces that vision and our commitment to bring the best of the best in esports to an ever growing audience in Denmark.”

“Over the past year, with TV 2 Zulu as a sender, we have embraced esports and have built an amazingly dedicated community across our live TV broadcasts and social platforms. The result has been high shares and a Danish vote in one of the biggest sports of the future for the younger target groups. That’s why we’re thrilled to have secured a big part of the core esports rights for a three-year period, says Sune Roland Jensen, Content Manager for TV 2 Zulu and TV 2 Play.

“Our ambition at TV 2 has been that esports should be for TV 2 Zulu, what Tour de France and cycling in general have been for TV 2. And we have succeeded. Viewers and users come again and again because they like our coverage”, says editorial director Allan Hvid, TV 2 Sport.
