ESL Gaming Comes Back to Malaysia with ESL One powered by Intel®

Returning to the Arena of Stars in Resorts World Genting, Malaysia, the tournament features a US$400,000 total prize pool and world-class Dota 2 action

Cologne/New York ESL Gaming, the world’s leading esports company, today announced ESL One Malaysia 2022 powered by Intel®, which will take place on August 23-28. The tournament’s final weekend will be played out in front of a live audience at the Arena of Stars in Resorts World Genting, Malaysia.

The event marks the first Dota 2 competition with a live audience in Southeast Asia since late 2019 and ESL One’s return to the region since ESL One Genting 2018. It will be independent of the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC) and allows teams to fine-tune their skills before entering The International (TI) 11 while securing their share of the US$400,000 total prize pool.

Starting on August 23, the group stage will feature 12 of the world’s best Dota 2 teams making their way through the best-of-two round-robin format. While playing in a LAN environment, they will be battling it out for one of the eight available playoff spots. Then, moving over to a best of three double-elimination format with the grand final being decided through a best of five, the playoff stage will take place in front of a live audience at the Arena of Stars in Resorts World Genting, Malaysia.

“When we hosted ESL One in Genting back in 2017 and 2018, the fans brought along an amazing atmosphere and the place has kept a special place in our hearts ever since,” said Artem Bykov, General Manager, Game Management at ESL Gaming. “Returning the fantastic world of Dota 2 to the Arena of Stars is a great opportunity and we are thrilled to invite everyone for another amazing esports experience.”

“Esports across Southeast Asia has seen enormous growth online in the last two years, during a time when live events haven’t been possible in the region,” said Nick Vanzetti, Senior Vice President of Asia-Pacific Japan at ESL Gaming. “It’s exciting to finally be able to offer fans throughout the region the ability to connect in-person again, as we return to stadium-scale esports events with ESL One Malaysia.”

“We are pleased to co-host the massive return of ESL One, a much-anticipated tournament for esports enthusiasts this side of the region,” said Roger Ong, Assistant Vice President for Entertainment & Events, Resorts World Genting. “Arena of Stars has been an iconic go-to-venue for prominent events since its inception and fans of ESL One can certainly look forward to a spectacular come-back tournament.”
