As competition kicks off, IEM Rio will pay tribute to Brazilian Counter-Strike culture with new public art installment
October 3, 2024, Cologne/New York/Rio de Janeiro: Intel® Extreme Masters (IEM) Rio 2024 will bring together 16 of the world’s best Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) teams October 7-13 in the “Cidade Maravilhosa” for the final IEM tournament of the year. Top CS2 squads will compete for a $250,000 prize pool and a chance to move up in the Intel® Grand Slam V race.
Brought to you by ESL FACEIT Group, the leading esports and video game entertainment company, IEM Rio also offers teams their final opportunity to qualify for IEM tournaments in 2025. In addition to claiming the $100,000 top prize, the victor of IEM Rio 2024 will automatically qualify for the first ESL Pro Tour championship event in 2025.
Schedule and Format
Group Stage: October 7-9
- All 16 teams will compete in two double-elimination brackets to determine who advances on to Playoffs. Opening matches are best-of-one, while all other matches will be best-of-three series. The top three teams from each group will advance to Playoffs, with winners advancing directly to the Semifinals.
Playoffs: October 11-12
- The Playoffs will feature six qualifying teams in a single-elimination, best-of-three bracket as they race to claim the IEM Rio 2024 title.
Grand Finals: October 13
- The final two teams will face off in a best-of-five for the $100,000 grand prize, automatic qualification to the first ESL Pro Tour championship of 2025, and a win in the race for the Intel® Grand Slam V.

IEM Rio will feature 16 teams that qualified for the tournament through ESL World Rankings, Local Hero invites, online regional qualifiers, and more. This includes reigning IEM Rio 2023 champions Team Vitality, as well as Local Hero invitee and Brazilian representative FURIA Esports.

ESL Collaborates with Brazilian Artist Arlin Graff for Jacarepaguá Counter-Strike Mural
To celebrate the rich history of Counter-Strike in Brazil, ESL is bringing its Live Legendary brand campaign to life and collaborating with local street artist Arlin Graff to create a mural in Rio de Janeiro’s Jacarepaguá neighborhood. The mural will pay tribute to one of Brazil’s most iconic Counter-Strike esports pros, Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo, and highlights his impact on fueling local Counter-Strike fandom.
