1. Introduction
We are ESL FACEIT Group (“EFG Group” or “EFG”), a leading force in the esports industry. Our organisation encompasses multiple companies, with our core brands being ESL, Dreamhack, and FACEIT (together, the “Core Brands”). Together, we create unparalleled experiences for gamers and esports enthusiasts worldwide, hosting major tournaments, festivals, and online competitions that bring the global gaming community together.
This Privacy Notice explains why and how we process your personal data when you apply for a role at EFG. It covers all recruitment processing carried out by the EFG Group.
2. Our Core Brands: What do we do
- ESL:
We host major international tournaments like ESL Pro League and Intel Extreme Masters, and we provide platforms for both professional and amateur gamers to compete in various games. We also produce and broadcast live esports events and organise online competitions and local events. - Dreamhack:
We are a gaming festival and esports event organizer. We host major esports tournaments, large-scale BYOC (Bring Your Own Computer) LAN parties, and gaming conventions featuring activities like cosplay competitions and tabletop games. - FACEIT:
We are an esports platform that host a variety of tournaments for games (“Platform Games”), run leagues for Platform Games and offer advanced matchmaking services via the FACEIT platform to play Platform Games. We provide community spaces for players to connect and participate in Platform Games.
3. About Us
Our EFG recruitment team (operated under ESL FACEIT Group Limited) recruits talent and manages the recruitment activities for the full EFG Group.
- When you are applying for a role by which you are hired directly by ESL FACEIT Group Limited or by an employer of record provider “EOR” (e.g. Deel Inc., a Delaware corporation with its principal offices at 425 1st San Francisco, CA 94105 United States, and any of its affiliates, together “Deel”), ESL FACEIT Group Limited decides the reasons for processing your data and how to process it. This is known as the controller.
- When you are applying for a role at a EFG entity (by which you are not hired directly by ESL FACEIT Group Limited or by an EOR), ESL FACEIT Group Limited and the other EFG entity jointly decide the reasons for processing your data and how to process it. They are known as joint controllers.

4. What Are Your Rights
We will honour your rights under applicable data protection laws. These rights are not absolute, and they do not always apply in all cases. If you wish to make a request in respect of your data (as described in this section of the Privacy Notice), please contact our EFG Customer Support team support.faceit.com/hc/en-us.
You may:
- request access to your personal data;
- request the correction or deletion of your personal data;
- request that we restrict our use of your personal data;
- request a machine-readable copy of your personal data or that your personal data be transferred to other IT systems;
- object to the processing of your personal data;
- withdraw your consent to our use of your personal data at any time where we rely on your consent to use or process that personal data; and
- lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, in particular in the Member State of the EU of your habitual residence, place of work or place of the alleged infringement.
5. Processing of your Personal Data
Personal Data we may process from you when you got referred and/or you submit your application
- Purpose:
To manage your recruitment process, to determine whether you are suitable for the role. - Data:
Your name, preferred first name, email address, phone number, other personal data included in your CV and cover letter (such as date of birth, educational background, references, employment and work history), your yearly gross salary expectations, notice period, whether you have the legal authority to work in the country the position is located, whether you require immigration sponsorship, whether you have professional experience and/or personal interest in esports/gaming, answers related to job specific questions, and referral information. - Legal basis:
As it is necessary for our legitimate interests, namely to evaluate your application, and to communicate with you. - Source:
You provide this information to us when you apply for a job, or to work with us as a freelancer. If you apply through other career websites (e.g. LinkedIn), we will receive certain of your personal data from the career website. We may also receive your personal data from an EFG employee or a third party who recommends you as a candidate for a specific job opening. - Recipient:
We share your personal data with the third party recruitment platform provider (Greenhouse LLC), and cloud storage provider (Google).
Personal data we collect from you during the recruitment process
- Purpose:
To manage your recruitment process and to determine whether you are suitable for the role. - Data:
Interview notes, your name and email address, internal communication regarding your application, outcomes and results of a technical test, task or presentation, and meta data regarding your application file. We may also collect and process references, and information you published publicly on publicly available sources, as permitted by applicable laws.- For the USA only, we ask to share your demographic background with the aim of preventing potential discriminatory recruitment practices, and identify areas of improvement in our hiring process. Providing this information is voluntary and will not have any impact on employment-related decisions.

- Legal basis:
As it is necessary for our legitimate interests, namely to evaluate your application, manage your recruitment process and communicate with you, and to consider whether you are suitable for the role.- The demographic background (USA only), we process as it is necessary for compliance with a legal obligation to which we are subject. As an exception to the retention periods listed in Section 6, we retain the demographic background: (i) if your application is successful, for 3 years after termination of your employment contact; and (ii) if your application is unsuccessful, three years after completion of the recruitment procedure.
- The demographic background (USA only), we process as it is necessary for compliance with a legal obligation to which we are subject. As an exception to the retention periods listed in Section 6, we retain the demographic background: (i) if your application is successful, for 3 years after termination of your employment contact; and (ii) if your application is unsuccessful, three years after completion of the recruitment procedure.
- Source:
We collect this personal data from your direct conversation partners, publicly available sources (such as social media), or third parties that provide references. - Recipient:
We share your personal data with a third party recruitment platform provider (Greenhouse LLC), with third party scheduling platforms (Google Calendar and Calendly), as well as with the Microsoft Office suite.
Personal data we collect from you for drafting a job offer or a contract
- Purpose:
To prepare a job offer and an employment contract. - Data:
Your name, contact details, information included in your passport or identity document (such as date of birth, document number, social security number), and your employment information (such as your position, start date, salary and your manager) we agreed upon. - Legal basis:
As it is necessary in order to take steps at the request of the data subject prior to entering into a contract. - Source:
You provide this information to us.
Recipient: We share your personal data with our third party recruitment platform provider (Greenhouse LLC), and human resources information system (Hibob).
6. Retention of your personal data
How long we retain the personal data we hold about you, is dependent on whether your application is successful, as well as the region where you reside.
- If your application is unsuccessful, we apply the following retention periods from the moment of our final response to your application:
- i. Asia Pacific and Japan: six years;
- ii. United States of America: four years;
- iii. EU (incl. UK): six months;
- iv. Kingdom of Saudi Arabia: six months.
We may retain your recruitment file including your personal data for an additional year after the retention period described above expired, provided that you provided your consent. We provide this option to ensure, in case a future opportunity arises, that we are able to consider whether you are suitable for a role, and if so, to contact you.
- If your application is successful, we apply the same retention periods for your recruitment personal data as the retention periods set out in the EFG Employee Privacy Notice.
7. Disclosures
EFG Group
The companies in our group collaborate closely with each other to share resources and for improved efficiency. Part of this may involve the sharing of your data between the group, and to govern such data flows securely and in compliance with data protection laws, the EFG Group has in place an intercompany data protection agreement. The intercompany data protection agreement sets out the different roles and responsibilities of the EFG companies.
Other
We may share your personal data:
- if your application is successful, with our human resource information system (Hibob) for the purpose of managing your employment;
- where required by law, government, competent authorities or the courts or to establish, exercise or defend our legal rights, and for the purposes of preventing crime and fraud. Our legal basis for this processing is likely to be: to comply with a with legal obligation, or as it is necessary for our legitimate interests, namely for (i) obtaining advice in relation to legal and similar proceedings; (ii) communicating with relevant third parties in relation to legal and similar proceedings; and/or (iii) protecting and defending ourselves from legal and similar proceedings;
- with our suppliers (such as, recruitment software providers), and subcontractors, as necessary for the purposes (and on the legal basis) set out in this Privacy Notice;
- If involved in an investment, merger, acquisition, or sale of our organisation or assets, personal data we hold may be shared on the basis of the legitimate interests of us, our shareholders, customers and other parties to a transaction, unless those interests are outweighed by prejudicial impacts upon you. Legal basis: our legal basis for this processing is likely to be: our legitimate interests pursued would typically include our interest (and that of our shareholders) in negotiating and concluding the relevant transaction, and our interest (and that of our users) in financing the business and ensuring the development and continuity of our business.
8. Storage and transfers
We regularly collaborate with an international network of EFG companies and partners and subcontractors based in different countries. As such, personal data we collect may be transferred, and stored and processed outside of the UK and European Economic Area (EEA) in a country in which we or our companies, partners or subcontractors maintain facilities. We will ensure that transfers of personal data to a third country or an international organisation are subject to appropriate safeguards (in accordance with data protection laws).
For transfers between EFG companies, the EFG Group intercompany data protection agreement (see disclosures) contains Standard Contractual Clauses provided by the European Commission to govern data flows from EFG companies established within the UK, EU or the EEA to EFG companies established outside of the UK, EU, or the EEA.
9.Updates to this Privacy Notice
We regularly review our Privacy Notice to make sure it is kept up-to-date and compliant with new legislation. We reserve the right to make any changes. You can check when the Privacy Notice was last amended by looking at the date at the start of the document.
