Cologne/New York With the extraordinary memories of the recent Intel® Extreme Masters (IEM) Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) Major Championship Made of Madness in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, still top of mind, ESL, an ESL FACEIT Group brand, today revealed that IEM is returning to the Brazilian coastal city on April 17-23.

The ESL Pro Tour Masters competition – IEM Rio 2023 – will see 16 top-tier CS:GO teams from around the globe battle it out for a total prize pool of $250,000, a win in the race to the Intel® Grand Slam, and a spot in the IEM Cologne 2023 tournament. The competition kicks off with the Group Stage on April 17 in which the participating teams will face off in two groups of eight.

The six best teams will then proceed to the live Playoff Stage on April 21-23. During those final three days, fans from Brazil and beyond are set to experience the unrivaled atmosphere once again as the top squads enter the stage and come face to face at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro.

With the majority of the teams, including the local fan-favorite FURIA Esports, already confirmed to compete at IEM Rio 2023, the two remaining teams will be determined by Open and Closed Qualifiers for teams from Europe, North America, South America, and Asia. These qualifiers commenced on January 21 and will conclude later today, February 16.

Last year during the IEM Rio Major, the Brazilian crowd demonstrated such an enormous enthusiasm and passion as we have never before witnessed in esports,” said Shaun Clark, Senior Director Game Ecosystems – CS:GO at ESL FACEIT Group. “When we announced that we’d be returning to Brazil, we could already count on a lot of excitement from the community. IEM Rio 2023 is set for an intimate atmosphere and countless memorable moments. We can’t wait to enter the Jeunesse Arena again this year and do more in, and for, the region in the future.”

The ticket sale for IEM Rio 2023 starts on March 6, at 12:00 BRT/16:00 CET. Stay tuned as more details will be revealed.
