IEM Cologne Major 2026 made history as the best Counter-Strike esports event to date, setting a new all-time record and becoming the most-watched CS tournament in history. The competition recorded over 100 million Hours Watched* and a peak audience of more than 2,750,000 viewers*.
Taking place in the heart of Cologne, IEM Cologne brought the Major Championship back to Counter-Strike’s most iconic stages after ten years. The tournament reached its climax as Team Falcons overcame FURIA in a 3-0 Grand Final to claim the Major trophy, their lion’s share of the $1,250,000 prize pool, and a point in the $1,000,000 ESL Grand Slam VII race.
Across nine tournament days, the sold-out LANXESS arena and Palladium welcomed 67,000 fans from more than 75 different countries to experience the competition live.
Stages 1, 2 & 3
On June 2-15, 32 teams competed across Stages 1, 2 and 3 of the IEM Cologne Major 2026, with only eight advancing to the Playoffs at the LANXESS arena. For the first time in IEM Cologne history, fans had the opportunity to witness the action live during Stage 3, expanding the live experience ahead of the Playoffs.
FURIA and Team Spirit secured the Playoffs with flawless 3-0 runs through Stage 3, while Team Vitality, Aurora Gaming and Team Falcons advanced with 3-1 records. BetBoom and 9z claimed their spots with 3-2 scores, becoming two of the tournament’s standout underdog stories. BetBoom became only the second team in Counter-Strike Major history to progress through every competition stage to reach the Playoffs. At the same time, 9z marked its IEM Cologne debut by securing the organization’s first Major Playoffs appearance. Joining them in the final eight, G2 closed the Playoffs lineup with a victory over recent IEM Atlanta Champions, Natus Vincere, taking away their shot at the Major trophy.
The road to the Playoffs brought several surprises, with tournament favorites The MongolZ and MOUZ falling short of qualification despite entering the competition in Stage 3 among the leading teams. Regardless of their early elimination in Stage 2, BIG also delivered one of the most memorable moments, recovering from a 0-12 score against NRG on Mirage and winning 16 consecutive rounds to take the map and eventually the series 2-1.
The Playoffs
On June 18-21, the Cathedral of Counter-Strike opened its doors for thousands of fans ready to witness the crowning of the IEM Cologne Major Champion.
The Playoffs opened with Aurora Gaming defeating BetBom Team 2-0 in the first Major Playoffs appearance for both teams, bringing BetBoom’s historic run to an end. The second quarterfinal saw a Latin American clash between 9z and FURIA, with FURIA advancing to the Semifinals following a close 2-1 victory. Day two of the Quarterfinals featured one of the most intense matches of the tournament, as Team Spirit defeated G2 Esports 2-1 after a four-overtime decider. The final quarterfinal was a back-and-forth battle between Team Falcons and Team Vitality, with both sides trading rounds before Team Falcons secured a 2-1 victory.
The Semifinals maintained the high level of competition seen throughout the tournament. FURIA continued their strong form with a dominant 2-0 win against Aurora Gaming to become the first team to reach the Grand Final. In the second Semifinal, Team Spirit, the IEM Cologne 2025 defending champions, and Team Falcons pushed each other to the limit, with two of the three maps going to overtime before Falcons secured a 2-1 victory and a place in the Grand Final.
The IEM Cologne Major 2026 Grand Final brought together Team Falcons and FURIA in the first Major Grand Final appearance for both organizations. For Nikola “NiKo” Kovač, it was a chance to win the missing Major title after more than a decade of competition. At the same time, Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo returned to the Major stage in Cologne ten years after lifting the trophy with SK Gaming.
The Grand Final saw Team Falcons rise to the occasion to deliver a dominant performance against FURIA, closing out the series 3-0 in front of a roaring crowd. The victory brought three weeks of elite Counter-Strike to a conclusion at the Cathedral of Counter-Strike, with Team Falcons winning their first Major title, a lion’s share of the $1,250,000 prize pool, and lifting the coveted trophy. Additionally, Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov earned the ESL Pro Tour DHL MVP Award for his outstanding performance throughout the tournament.
