ESL Gaming and Mastercard Renew NLC Partnership for 2021

Mastercard is Official Payment Partner of the NLC

STOCKHOLM/COLOGNE/NEW YORKESL Gaming, the world’s largest esports company, and Mastercard have announced the renewal of their partnership for the Northern League of Legends Championship (NLC). As part of the agreement, Mastercard will continue as the Official Payment Partner of the NLC offering “Priceless Play of the Match” rewards for viewers of the NLC.

The NLC is a Northern European league in Riot Games’ highly-popular, competitive, and fast-paced, action-strategy game run by ESL Gaming through the DreamHack brand. The first season was picked up by Fnatic Rising who will now return to defend their title with the start of the NLC 2021 Spring Split on January 19, 2021.

Among the successes of the Fall partnership was the creation of custom broadcast segments. The NLC and Mastercard will build on this accomplishment by developing these segments further. In addition, the Give Away Rewards — during which Mastercard gives back to the fans — will also continue. Some of the expanded broadcast segments will include:

  • Mastercard Nexus Insights: Facts about League of Legends.
  • Gold Graph: Mastercard, through its sonic brand, presents the gold difference between the two competing teams using in-broadcast graphics.
  • Instant Replay: A highlight replay showed during broadcasts.
  • Play of the Day: In the end of each broadcast day, the talents/casters discuss highlights of the matches and present four “play of the match” sequences. Fans will vote on which “play of the match” sequence will be the Play of the Day. Each week fans vote, they will have the opportunity to win Give Away Rewards. 
  • Use of Mastercard’s Sonic Brand: Used in the Gold graph and Mastercard Nexus Insights segments.

The NLC is the top league in a new competitive ecosystem, where the best teams compete from the Telia Esports Series — which has expanded from Finland to Norway, Denmark, and Sweden — featuring national leagues and DreamHack-operated UKLC in the UK and Ireland.
