Digital festival to unite world’s gamers in fight against COVID-19 with US $10m charity fund used to further global vaccination efforts

Cologne/Stockholm/NewYork – June 2nd, 2021 – Gamers from across the globe will once again fight against COVID-19 in the return of the charity esports and gaming festival, Gamers Without Borders under the theme of No One Left Behind. Created by the Saudi Esports Federation (SEF) and getting underway on June 7, ESL Gaming is set to support the cause as the event’s technical partner, producing the event’s elite-level esports competitions and supporting live-stream shows. Following a successful inaugural event last year, the second edition of Gamers Without Borders will feature leading various game titles including Fortnite, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, Rocket League and PUBG MOBILE as well as one yet unrevealed title as the global gaming community unites to support vaccine distribution across the world with a US $10m donation.

The charity fund is set up in partnership with multiple international humanitarian aid organizations, such as UNICEF, Gavi and Direct Relief, who are supporting the world’s underprivileged countries and communities with the distribution of COVID-19 vaccine. The nine- week online charity and esports festival will boast the biggest names in gaming, sports and entertainment and will be broadcast across the world in a live multi-language feed on the highest production level delivered by ESL Gaming. In addition, spectators will now also be able to donate to the cause and grow the overall charity fund further.

The broadcasts will include technical innovations such as rendering using the Unreal engine, augmented reality, and a complex virtual world holding three unique studios: the esports virtual studio, the visual set for gaming & esports talk shows and the virtual concert stage, as Gamers Without Borders 2021 looks to bring exciting side activations to the fans.

2020’s debut Gamers Without Borders event showed the gaming and esports community coming together in the fight against the pandemic. The inaugural edition of Gamers Without Borders, also produced by ESL Gaming, became a unique esports charity event with gamers participating and watching from across the world,  and a US $10 million prize fund donated to seven global charities including UNICEF and International Medical Corps. Stars such as Snoop Dogg, One Direction’s Liam Payne, Liverpool and England’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, Juventus player Paulo Dybala, and Tottenham and England midfielder Dele Alli were also part of the roster involved in the live-streamed action.

David Neichel, Head of International Growth and Advisor to CEO at ESL Gaming, said: “Gaming brings people closer together and connects communities across different borders. We are happy to once again collaborate with the Saudi Esports Federation for Gamers without Borders, creating a great experience open for all fans around the world with the goal to provide COVID-19 relief to areas that need it most.

His Royal Highness Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Sultan is chairman of the Saudi Esports Federation, said: Our mission is ‘No One Left Behind’. We want to connect, inspire and entertain the international gaming community to ensure we leave no one behind in supporting the world’s ongoing recovery from COVID-19. We will be bringing the biggest names, elite teams, epic titles, and brand-new gaming experiences to excite fans across the globe.

The virtual event will be broadcast across the globe, with a multi-language stream across platforms. Further updates will be made ahead of the tournament start date.
